Have you ever noticed how much young kids like exploring the kitchen? Especially when you’re trying to get something done in there? Here are some ideas to work with that enthusiasm:
- Talk about what you’re doing, as you’re doing it. Dishes may be a boring chore to you but for young minds, it’s fascinating! Singing is optional.
- Have a cupboard or shelf in the kitchen that’s kid-friendly. Some ideas for supplies? Pots, pans, wooden spoons, plastic measuring cups and bowls.
- Gather some “kid cleaning supplies” such as a small broom, dustpan and washcloth; this is the stage when they find cleaning fun – take advantage!
- Have a little table in your kitchen for your little one to sit at and draw or read.
The bottom line is that kids want to be near you and to be like you. Enjoy this before the teen years hit!
